Senior Data Engineer - Full-time

We are looking for a Sr. Data Engineer to join our growing team. Sr. Data Engineer will leverage their business and technical knowledge to develop production-ready data models by integrating multiple data sources while working with business and technical teams to understand business strategy and objectives, gather information, and ensure business requirements are being fulfilled throughout the entire data & analytics lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement robust data models for enterprise systems and external sources, ensuring data is accessible, accurate, and consistently available for analysis.
  • Act as a technical resource in executing data strategies and architectures, collaborating closely with data architects and stakeholders to ensure alignment.
  • Advocate and adhere to software and data engineering best practices, leveraging cloud technologies to accelerate innovation.
 
Strategy & Planning
  • Partner with data architects, product teams, and business experts to create and execute a data management roadmap aligned with company objectives.
  • Develop tactical solutions to meet immediate needs, while supporting long-term data architecture standards and vision.
  • Collaborate across teams, including IT, Business Intelligence, Data Quality, and Data Governance, to ensure accurate data metadata and high standards of data quality.
 
Acquisition & Deployment
  • Contribute to solution proposals with vendors and cloud providers, supporting the evaluation and selection of data solutions that meet company and client objectives.
  • Plan and participate in initiatives for data security, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity, aligning with best practices for data integrity and regulatory compliance.
 
Operational Management
  • Drive best practices in data engineering workflows, from SDLC processes to source control and change management.
  • Conduct peer reviews, mentoring team members to promote high standards and continuous improvement.
  • Explore and implement tools and technologies to advance Data Ideology’s data engineering capabilities.
  • Ensure efficient data mapping, movement, and integration across platforms, maintaining data quality and consistency.
  • Support project managers and business leads on data-centric initiatives, facilitating successful data integration and system compatibility.
 
Additional Responsibilities
  • Contribute to cloud cost optimization, data reuse, and tech-debt reduction, promoting sustainable data engineering practices.
  • Regularly update and enhance the data architecture to keep up with evolving technologies and business needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of seven (7+) years of relevant experience in data engineering or related fields.
  • Solid understanding of data architecture concepts, data mining, and large-scale data modeling.
  • Proficiency in cloud data technologies, with experience in platforms like Snowflake, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with data governance principles, data quality standards, and security protocols.
  • Strong programming skills in languages commonly used for data engineering (e.g., SQL, Python, Spark).
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including source control, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment best practices. 

Work Environment: 

  • Remote work from home.   Some travel to Pittsburgh, PA a few times a year.
  • Hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday. Specific business hours will depend on client needs. 

Physical Demands: 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. 
  • The person in this position must occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, library stacks, office machinery, etc. 
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer. 
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with clients and coworkers. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
